Hi all,

I was just hoping for some advice on whether to apply for the Module A exam (without membership) or to apply for membership and do all 4 exams (plus Mod A).

I'm a former S&T telecoms technician (British Rail) and am actively seeking work in rail telecoms.

I just wondered what is the breadth and depth of each of the modules w.r.t study time?

Would 5 exams be manageable between now and October this year (2020)?

I have plenty of study experience as I have a master's from university, but just wanted some basic info. on the actual length and depth of each module - as far as I'm aware, I won't be able to explore this until I become a member.

Thanks
I have already “attempted” about a dozen or so past questions but the problem I have is so far I have been unable to find anyone to mark or advise about my attempts on a consistent basis. I have explored a few avenues but so far no luck. Obviously there is this site and I am grateful for the members contributions but really I need a bit more especially as my background was not Signalling or mainline.
I would be very grateful if someone would be willing to mentor/advise me or even point me in the direction of someone who would.

Hi, I'm a railway signalling enthusiast from Singapore, specialising in Metro signalling. Had this interest ever since young, from taking the local Singapore metro, also known as the MRT, for many of my commutes as a young boy until today.

Have keen interest in Singapore MRT's oldest 2 lines - the North South East West Line (NSEWL) network which runs on a UK based signalling system from Westinghouse. We're using Fixed-block ATP signalling principles with Semi-Automatic ATO functionality (door operation and train departure still needs human intervention by button-press).

This hasn't changed since 1987 when our MRT first came into service. So we're currently undergoing resignalling to Thales SelTrac CBTC which is due to complete by 2018 as part of system renewal.

I managed to get a month long attachment last year, with the local train company SMRT which runs the NSEWL network. Thanks to my mentors there, I was formally introduced to IRSE.

Ever since my attachment, I have obtained a more enriching insight into railway signalling and especially into our resignalling project. We're currently in the transition to CBTC so the signalling scene for NSEWL is very lively now. Lots of learning opportunities from seeing the static and dynamic testing of trains, testing of the CBTC equipment at stations like Zone Controller, Wayside AP/WRU and visiting the OCC to learn more about the ATS functionalities etc.

Am currently in Year 12/JC2 of High School/Junior College. So I don't have any formal engineering background as of yet. Nevertheless, I spend my free time reading up more on this speciality. I hope to learn more on railway signalling from reading more of the exam questions and answers in IRSE Exam Forum.

Would also appreciate if somebody can provide the names/details of the people who have cleared the exam in Indian Railways . Just a little background, I have a fairly good knowledge of the logical concepts of signalling as operated on Indian Railways but I lack in knowledge about varied practices .
I am ASTE (Assistant Signal and Telecom Engineer), RDSO working for Indian Railways. I have completed almost 3 years of service (including 1 & 1/2 years' training) and i am thinking about taking up the exams in 2016. I would appreciate if anybody could guide me where to start or what is the right time to appear for the exam. Is it too soon for me ? Would also appreciate if somebody can provide the names/details of the people who have cleared the exam in Indian Railways . Just a little background, I have a fairly good knowledge of the logical concepts of signalling as operated on Indian Railways but I lack in knowledge about varied practices . I am not very good at telecom portion though can understand the basic principles. Thats all, thanks in advance for the help.
