I was just hoping for some advice on whether to apply for the Module A exam (without membership) or to apply for membership and do all 4 exams (plus Mod A).

I'm a former S&T telecoms technician (British Rail) and am actively seeking work in rail telecoms. 

I just wondered what is the breadth and depth of each of the modules w.r.t study time? 

Would 5 exams be manageable between now and October this year (2020)? 

I have plenty of study experience as I have a master's from university, but just wanted some basic info. on the actual length and depth of each module - as far as I'm aware, I won't be able to explore this until I become a member.

Have keen interest in Singapore MRT's oldest 2 lines - the North South East West Line (NSEWL) network which runs on a UK based signalling system from Westinghouse. We're using Fixed-block ATP signalling principles with Semi-Automatic ATO functionality (door operation and train departure still needs human intervention by button-press). 

This hasn't changed since 1987 when our MRT first came into service. So we're currently undergoing resignalling to Thales SelTrac CBTC which is due to complete by 2018 as part of system renewal.

I managed to get a month long attachment last year, with the local train company SMRT which runs the NSEWL network. Thanks to my mentors there, I was formally introduced to IRSE.

Ever since my attachment, I have obtained a more enriching insight into railway signalling and especially into our resignalling project. We're currently in the transition to CBTC so the signalling scene for NSEWL is very lively now. Lots of learning opportunities from seeing the static and dynamic testing of trains, testing of the CBTC equipment at stations like Zone Controller, Wayside AP/WRU and visiting the OCC to learn more about the ATS functionalities etc.

Am currently in Year 12/JC2 of High School/Junior College. So I don't have any formal engineering background as of yet. Nevertheless, I spend my free time reading up more on this speciality. I hope to learn more on railway signalling from reading more of the exam questions and answers in IRSE Exam Forum.  ]]>
