On the off chance can somebody direct me to a barrier machine user manual? Have been trolling the internet for 2 hours to no avail. I want to know how the machine mechanism raises and lowers the barrier along with any detection/ lock safety features the machine has.

Believe the machines used on UK network are as per below;

Also does the OD scan continuously after its warmed up until it's last scan before the crossing clear is given for the protecting signal to show a proceed

Note that although fully automatic in usual operation, the type of crossing in the UK is referred to as a Manually Controlled Barrier - Obstacle Detection (because it is effectively very similar to the MCB and MCB-CCTV and crucially has interlocked protecting signals), but this can create confusion.   The answer given referred to AFBC which I think may have been the name originally proposed and therefore the student found in some documents; the impetus to investigate use of RADAR followed the Ufton Crossing accident which resulted from a suicidal person deliberately parking their vehicle on the AHBC and waiting in it for a train to arrive, but the emphasis then shifted to better protection and less signaller workload for the MCB.]]>

I have just started doing some work to prepare for the IRSE exams. I haven't done much work on level crossings before but it seems like a popular topic so thought I would have ago at one of the questions. I don't feel like I have written much so I might have missed a couple of things. Any feedback would be welcome.

I am studying level crossings at the moment and would like to know where I can read up on the design criteria for them. I am looking at things like what criteria constitutes Full or half or no barriers.

Either an attached document or reference I could search for would be good.
