But what was everyone's thoughts on yesterdays exams? Personally I was found the idea of being able to type my answers in stead of having to hand write a lot better (I can get very messy writing if I'm doing it at speed).

It took a bit of getting used to using the online format but after the first 10 mins i found it quite easy to navigate round and answer the questions.

Could we see more online exams in the future, in terms of Modules B,C & D?

I did Modules 1 & 5, so i don't know how people doing Module A found it.

Is there a clock in the exam room? Seems strange but since mobile phones came out I haven't worn a watch in years.

I have been asked to give a "Signalling for Dummies" presentation at an NR Infrastructure Projects Directors' away day. Does anyone have a Powerpoint presentation I could borrow with some graphics that provides a high level explanation of signalling, e.g. starting with bobbies with flags, absolute block, TCB, 2-4 aspect etc?

Point blank the reason is design work being out sourced to other countries. Why is this a problem?

Here in England the work more often on big contracts is sent to India or other such places in order to cut costs, which means people in the UK only get to review the designs.

This of course makes doing real "Design" work impossible.
Making the criteria you have to meet very hard to do.

To achieve getting your license here in the UK becomes very tough, with people hoping and fighting for scraps of work. While you may have one or two designs to your name, this seems to not be enough.

Without being able to do hands on designs, the ability to learn and achieve becomes both frustrating and upsetting.

Will this continue into the future. I wonder.

I would like to hear some peoples views on this. Maybe just to spark some conversation about the future of signal designers, something that was discussed at the last IRSE event in Manchester.
