Module 5 - Track Circuits

Dear all,

I am looking to study module 5 of the IRSE exam but I found lack of resources (books, papers, etc...) for this examination. can you please let me know which resources shall I study to pass it??

You won't find one book entitled "Everything you need to know to pass the IRSE Exam Mod 5".

Have you got the IRSE Study Pack yet; I think the one for mod 5 is one of the better ones. It also has a selection of relevant IRSE papers included.

Also the OS Nock "Railway Signalling" IRSE book is good for basic points, tracks signals though of course is dated now (1980s) so you will need to supplement with more modern material- fortunately this is where IRSE News articles can assist.

Of course it depends on your background and employer but you may well find that there is a lot of useful info available at work. Module 5 is about more than maintenance of trackside equipment but that does give a firm basis- hence training course notes and maintenance schedules etc for specific pieces of equipment are useful without being the whole story.

For an idea what exam questions entail then I suggest tha you start looking at the attachments from the GM Rail event

A free standing topic is track circuit calculations and there are several such posts on this forum
