Whilst looking for something else, my search turned up the attached.
I originally produced these notes some 10 years ago (doesn't time fly) to help give some mainline signalling testers better background knowledge- following a few things which "slipped through" inspection which should not have done.

I looked at these a year or so ago and they didn't seem too dated, though of course there is no mention of axle counters.

May be of some use for those doing mod 5 in particular; they won't help on the calculations but should help give that underpinning knowledge that may be useful in the "extra bit" which is often tacked on to that staple question, or indeed some other question. Formed a significant part of a module 3 question in 2007 for example.

Good stuff. The other part of the same question was about factors determining max and min length and there is a certain amount of food for thought in this; certainly a good use of the forum to share items such as this

I was interested by the painting of the overhaul date and not keeping it in use "even one day" beyond the next required overhaul! Good tight maintenance regime. I can feel a module 1 question about the risks involved one way or another coming on.....
