Whilst looking for something else, my search turned up the attached.
I originally produced these notes some 10 years ago (doesn't time fly) to help give some mainline signalling testers better background knowledge- following a few things which "slipped through" inspection which should not have done.
I looked at these a year or so ago and they didn't seem too dated, though of course there is no mention of axle counters.
May be of some use for those doing mod 5 in particular; they won't help on the calculations but should help give that underpinning knowledge that may be useful in the "extra bit" which is often tacked on to that staple question, or indeed some other question. Formed a significant part of a module 3 question in 2007 for example.
