I was looking into the Pearce IRJ tester for carrying out IRJ tests on DC TC areas and how it could be labour saving during maintenance. You fit a sensor on either side of the IRJ and a spring loaded probe breaks the rust on the IRJ giving continuity, I take it that it measures the voltage of the stagger and compares with what leaks to the IRJ plate??
However it apparently has issues identifying failing IRJ's in areas were common voltages are used on adjecant tracks and through P&C work.
Anyone have any experience or information on the Pearce Tester and as to why it would have these failings?? Or are there other methods more suitable for IRJ testing??
