When to take the exam... - Lynsey Hunter - 29-07-2008

Hi Everyone,

PJW has prompted me to write a little bit about my exam experience. I sat three modules in 2004 (mods 1,5 &7) and then the final Mod 3 in 2005. I joined the industry in 2002 as a graduate.
When I motioned that I was going to sit some exams after two years, most people were sceptical about whether I was ready, however remember that if you are just recently out of university then you will still have exam skills i.e. can write a lot in a short space of time, and the ability to cram. Also, as I was still in the grad program, I had time to study within work hours, which certainly helped.
Do not be disillusioned, as it still requires a lot of personal time and study. I would recommend starting the programme sooner rather than later. I didn't have a huge amount of experience, but I shouted really loudly for help, and generally people are delighted to help, so ask ask ask! Try and get your manager involved and then perhaps they could merge the exams into your objectives and then give you some work time.
Remember that a lot of modules are really tricky to pass, so don't be down-hearted. The rule of the 5 years to pass has now been removed, so you can have as many shots as you like.
Good luck
