8th & 9th May 2010 - PJW - 12-03-2010

We have now fixed the date for this year's Mod2/Mod3 exam workshop which is again being kindly sponsored by Signet.

For details, see the attachment (which is as published in the current IRSE News).
As this states we are intending to make the sessions more general this year, rather than having Saturday as specifically mod2 and Sunday as mod 3 as we have before.

Module 3 will have the greater emphasis, but hopefully wider than a pure "how to fill up a Control Table" exercise and to show it interreltes with the placing of the signals on the layout etc; they really are two sides of the same coin. The sessions will be "Mainline" rather than featuring any specific "Metro" topics; however to reiterate that all should find useful and indeed the same mod3 paper is applicable to all candidates- as Daniel Woodland said in January he found it useful to have a little understanding of Mainline practice to know how to interpret the layout in order to complete Control Tables to Metro standards and to ensure that he stated the right assumptions.

I have been asked whether submission of work prior is a prerequisite to being granted a place; the answer is that there is a limited capacity and we do need to have a means of prioritisation if oversubscribed. Instead of making this purely on the basis of "first come, first served", we have decided that it should be "first to demonstrate committment, first to be allocated a place" which then permits you to book train tickets, hotels in confidence. Hence submitting some meaningful answers gets you to the head of the queue; then we will fill the remaining places based upon registration order. So it is not a pre-requisite but it is advisable though it is perfectly OK just to do either the mod 2 or the mod3 paper.
