2016 Question 8 - Safety Security - tfc82 - 07-09-2018
My first attempt at an exam question to time, thought I'd put it out there.
In retrospect, spent too long defining the system and in early lifecycle stages. So later stages were rushed. In the end this took 35mins, need to work on time management!
All suggestions for improvement appreciated.
For each of the following stages in the life cycle of a new signalling or telecoms system, state and describe how the safety and security of train control/communications is assured:
a) Concept [5 marks]
b) Design [5 marks]
c) Construction [5 marks]
d) Commissioning [5 marks]
e) Operation [5 marks]
In your answer state the type of system and give a brief description.

Hi,
Initial thoughts. You should elaborate on the Verification and Validation processes throughout the lifecycle. They seem to be missing. That is, how each phase is verified and validated, what's involved etc.

You clearly understand the timings were wrong an latter sections were too short. There are too many words - bulleted lists, tables etc., are a godsend.
Be careful to answer the question being asked. d) discussed ops/maintenance in a section discussing commissioning.
Lots of good points raised and a difficult question to answer.
