2014 Q8 Design of Relays suitable for environment - steak - 21-02-2018

module 5 2014 question 8 review please.
Should've used black ink, apologies.

Second part of question is worth 5 marks. Struggled to come up with answers here. only took 20 minutes so that was encouraging. Will start recording times taken as well to gauge progress and answering efficiency.

steak, it is worth starting a new thread for each question as it is easier to search and less likely to get lost.

Tip of the Day: 20 minutes isn't long enough and should trigger a warning - generally, a candidate would use every minute available and wish for more - however, this comment is without reading the attempt and it could be marvelous.

I will post a new thread to each question.
20 minutes didn't involve reading the question.......

Reading time is for reading the question! In case anyone is not aware, there is a period of reading time prior to the exam starting. From memory it is ten minutes but could be five. It is not long enough really.

A decent stab but the question was asking about environment, i.e. vibration, climate controlled, specifically about immunity (EMI) so a choice was required and DLR is DC, IP rating, materials, i.e. fire regs. How does DLR deal with immunity is the AC/DC areas such as parallel running to the GE Main Line? Consideration of application is required too, i.e. correct relay type selection - timers, high load, numbers and types of contacts.

I did not know there was reading time before the exam started. That’s a bit of a result. So you can actually go through the questions first and pick out what you are going to answer?

A good exam strategy is to identify the questions you think you can answer, formulate a framework of how to answer each element of the question and decide if you can get enough marks from that question to support a pass during reading time, else look at other questions. I made an error in the exam by mis-answering the question but I did point that out the examiner and stated a few points on what I felt they were asking.

Cheers. I see the vein of answers if they are looking for now. I will revisit at a later date.

Just for reference, what mark (roughly) would I be looking at for the answer as it stands now?

Cheers

That’s a good idea. I’ve been looking a single line Signalling system question and it could be interpreted in a couple of different ways. I don’t know how “black and white” the marking system is. Ie you either have answered the question or not.
